Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet Yellen will use her press conference on Wednesday to tell the market to chill out and not expect a flurry of interest rate hikes.
Yellen’s message will be to “cool your jets on all this right now,” said Michael Gapen, chief U.S. economist at Barclays.
The Fed is almost universally expected to raise interest rates Wednesday. But officials don’t want to send a strong hawkish signal by pencilling it more a more aggressive stance on future rate hikes.
