Queen Creek Station offers better transition between Large Lot Subdivision and Major Commercial Core

To develop sooner or later: that is the question the Queen Creek Town Council will consider at a public hearing Wednesday on a proposed change to the General Plan for the master-planned community of Queen Creek Station.

The proposed change is opposed by some residents, who think the town should hold out for what they consider is the better plan. Proponents say the recession changed the market and has rendered the current plan unfeasible or unmarketable.

The council in 2007 approved a plan for the 1,139-acre Queen Creek Station subdivision, at the northeastern and northwestern corners of Ellsworth Road and Queen Creek Road. The plan designated 216 acres as mixed-use — offices, retail and higher-density housing — to create a one-of-a-kind, upscale urban minicenter next to the Town Center.
