Scottsdale property owners to pay $3 million to bury power lines near WestWorld, but there’s a catch

But unless the city pitches in, the lines will still be positioned above the event center and its horse statue

Plans to string high-voltage power lines near the entrance to Scottsdale’s WestWorld event center have changed after nearby property owners opted to tax themselves about $3 million to bury the Arizona Public Service Co. lines.

However, the 69,000-volt power lines still will be aboveground near WestWorld’s entrance and its iconic horse statue.

Disclosure: Rose Law Group represents the property owners seeking to bury the powerlines.

In a 199-16 vote on March 2, area property owners overwhelmingly decided to create a new facilities improvement district after the Scottsdale City Council declined to pay for the lines to go underground. As a result, APS will install between 4,400 and 4,500 feet of power lines underground, according to a company spokeswoman.
