Ariz. GOP asks Boehner to reinstate Schweikert to committee

Tom Morrissey, Arizona Republican Party Chairman, has requested House Speaker John Boehner to reinstate Rep. David Schweikert to the House Financial Services Committee, who was ousted in a four-member committee purge after the November election.

Arizona Capitol Times reports that during his short time in Congress, Schweikert’s relationship with Boehner and other leaders has been rocky. Shortly after he took office, Schweikert was removed from the GOP whip team. Leadership was widely viewed as supporting outgoing Congressman Ben Quayle, Schweikert’s opponent in the Republican primary, and the conservative Club for Growth threatened to get into the race unless Boehner’s PAC contributed to Schweikert, as it had for Quayle.

“Our party and Congressman Schweikert’s constituents feel abused and betrayed by the actions of party leaders in you chamber,” stated Morrissey’s letter to Boehner.
