Since purchasing CopperWynd Resort and Spa in 2015, owner Bill Hinz spent more than $6 million to renovate Fountain Hills’ most well-known resort. Despite these improvements, Hinz sought to build something truly spectacular. After last night’s Fountain Hills Town Council meeting, Hinz will be able to achieve his goal.

Last night, represented by Jordan Rose from Rose Law Group, the Fountain Hills Town Council voted unanimously, 7-0, of a rezoning proposal that will allow CopperWynd to be renovated and to expand to 300 rooms. Once completed, the new CopperWynd will be a driver for economic development in the town. One study found that a built out CopperWynd will generate an estimated $1.65 million dollars in annual sales tax revenue for the Town, nearly ten times the amount that it is currently generating. Furthermore, hundreds of thousands of dollars in sales tax revenues will be generated as more people visit Fountain Hills’ businesses.

Hinz has assembled a world-class “Dream Team” of consultants and architects in order to rejuvenate CopperWynd. Award-winning architects Mark Philp, who is a Fountain Hills resident, and Michael Marcoux of firm Allen+Philp Partners Architecture and Interior Design have provided designs that ensure that CopperWynd blends in to Fountain Hills’ stunning topography. Engineer Ron Hilgart of HilgartWilson and traffic engineer Dawn Cartier of CivTech Inc. will ensure that construction proceeds efficiently and without disruption to neighboring communities.

Before a packed room of Fountain Hills residents, supporters from all across the town spoke glowingly of Hinz and his team. Words such as “visionary” and “daring” were used to describe Hinz as he embarked on this effort. Words such as “magnificent,” “stunning,” and “monumental” were used to describe CopperWynd’s renovation and what it will mean for Fountain Hills.

With this approval, there is no doubt that CopperWynd will become a Fountain Hills landmark, drawing in visitors for decades to come.
