He’s like a multipurpose football player, who can be a running back one play and a wide receiver the next. He’s the quarterback now, calling the plays of his coaches. He’s Jeff Tyne, the city manager for Peoria, whose coaches are the city council and mayor.
Tyne addressed the chamber luncheon audience last week and spoke with business people who questioned him about growth, jobs, transportation, budgets, and the city’s plans for the future. But first, he gave a summary of his duties and responsibilities, as well as a brief history of the city, where it has been and where it is today.
When Tyne came to Peoria in 1997, he was the budget director. He kept that position until 2013, when he was appointed deputy city manager. From 2011 to 2013, he also served as interim community services director, when J.P. de la Montaigne retired.
