Martha Alicia Garnica, 43, a former Customs and Border Protection officer, conspired to smuggle marijuana and undocumented migrants into the United States and bribed or attempted to bribe fellow officers in 2010.

A new federal oversight report shows more than 2,200 U.S. Customs & Border Protection officials were arrested between 2005 and 2012, and another 144 were arrested on official corruption charges.

The new Government Accountability Office report looks at arrests, misconduct and corruption within the ranks of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency.

The federal security agency has more than 60,000 officers with a heavy concentration in Southwestern border states such as Arizona.

The report found since 2005 there have been 144 CBP officers arrested for corruption, such as aiding and abetting Mexican drug cartels and smuggling rings that bring in illegal immigrants and contraband.

Other corruption charges included theft while on the job or selling immigration documents to undocumented migrants or smugglers.
