Maintaining Tempe’s character with growth

City council candidates square off that and other issues

Six Tempe City Council candidates responded to two hours of questions at a forum Monday, with a common element to many of the questions: growth.

How growth impacts Tempe’s quality of life. How to maintain the city’s character and history amid explosive growth. How to increase the density of development to improve public transit, and so on.

Tempe has seen development reshape its downtown, from high-rise office spaces to pricey apartments and condos.

The candidates included retired city employee Jennifer Adams, incumbent Robin Arredondo-Savage, attorney and disabilities advocate Sarah Kader, incumbent Lauren Kuby, neighborhood advocate Justin Stewart and business consultant Genevieve Vega.
