While it seemed that City Manager Ruth Osuna’s employment with the city was hanging on by a few threads at a special council meeting called last Wednesday, Jan. 23, Council eventually gave a unanimous vote to grant her the remainder of her contract through December.
According to city officials, Osuna had not yet had a performance evaluation from Council since she began in November of 2010. Mayor Joe Nagy requested the chance to do so.
But the agenda for the special meeting also indicated the possibility of terminating Osuna’s contract early.
Osuna, along with a few members of the public and city staff, sat patiently through a three-hour meeting while Council absconded behind closed doors for the entire duration. Council initially went in for a two-hour discussion at 5:30 p.m. After about 20 minutes, City Councilwoman Belinda Akes came out to request City Attorney Stephen Cooper sit in on the discussion for legal counsel.
At about 7:30 p.m., Council members emerged, and then submerged once again with Osuna.
