Pinal officials, developers try to get answers on water permit delays

A state representative has been joined by other Pinal County officials in expressing frustration over the slow approval process for water permits in the county.

The Arizona Department of Water Resources has been holding a group of applications for certificates of assured water supply for an unusually long time, according to lawmakers and stakeholders, hindering development in the area.

There are 17 being held within the Pinal County Active Management Area, without action being taken on them; they haven’t been accepted or rejected. One in the city of Casa Grande dates to 2013. ADWR must issue a permit to developers to certify that a development has an assured water supply for 100 years in order for building to be permitted.
