Arizona universities have broken ground on millions of dollars in building renovations financed by the first installment of a 25-year, state-funded, capital-improvement plan.
The plan, pushed by Gov. Doug Ducey last year, amounts to $1 billion over its lifetime. Universities will match these funds from their own budgets, allowing for massive investment in capital needs.
Universities have complained for years about the need for maintenance dollars to fix crumbling infrastructure and build new facilities to meet student demands.
