Developers and zoning attorneys involved in the controversial City Gate apartment proposal in Gilbert contributed to Vice Mayor Brigette Peterson and Councilman Jordan Ray’s re-election campaigns the month before they cast their votes on the project.
Peterson initially voted in May to approve a conditional use permit for the proposed project in the northeast part of the town. She received $1,350 in individual contributions from attorneys and developers working at companies involved in the project.
Ray cast a dissenting vote after receiving $1,000 in campaign contributions. He received an additional $350 before a second vote on the issue. The donations were revealed in the candidates’ most recent campaign finance filings.
