Arizona regulators OK takeover of Johnson Utilities, name two finalists

The Arizona Corporation Commission will name an interim manager to run Johnson Utilities, but who it will be won’t be decided until later this week.


The commission honed in on two entities as candidates to run the utility after voting to appoint an interim manager, following complaints about water and sewage services provided by Johnson Utilities in the far southeast Valley.

A decision could come July 26.

Those finalists are utility EPCOR and a cooperative effort by the towns of Queen Creek and Florence, where many of Johnson Utilities’ customers live.

When a replacement is named, it will mark the first time the commission has appointed an interim manager to run a large, Class-A utility.
