The Diamondbacks might be a first-place team. They just don’t always look like one. Their 5-3 loss to the Texas Rangers on Monday night was their third in four games on this cellar-dweller’s tour of a road trip, another night in which their offense failed to materialize against a pitching staff that ranks among the worst in baseball.

Diamondbacks hitters went down in order in six of nine innings against the Rangers. They managed only six hits and seven base runners in total. In a quiet postgame clubhouse, they struggled just as badly to come up with an explanation.

BOX SCORE:  Rangers 5, Diamondbacks 3
