Incumbents lead in Peoria City Council election as early results roll in

Two Peoria City Council incumbents lead by significant margins as early election results roll in Tuesday.

Carlo “Rocky” Leone, who has represented the Pine district in southwest Peoria for nearly two decades, is ahead of challengers Denette Dunn and Randal “RJ” Rains. Dunn touted endorsements from council members and the mayor made robocalls on her behalf.

Leone, reached by phone at his home, said he’ll wait until “every vote is counted” but feels encouraged by the early returns.

“Right now, as far as I’m concerned, I think I won the election,” Leone said.
