The city of Flagstaff won’t be raising the municipal sales tax rate or imposing a tax on groceries later this year.
But it will start charging more to swim at the Aquaplex and skate at the ice arena.
As for whether hundreds of city staff will get sizable raises after a few get laid off, well … stay tuned.
Those were some of the answered and unanswered questions emerging from the city’s Valentine’s Day budget retreat that produced fewer fireworks than some predicted.
“The budget hearing went better than I had expected,” said Councilmember Coral Evans. “I believe that as a council we are truly trying to move towards the establishment of a budget that truly reflects the diverse needs of our city.”
The Council set a goal of finding about $3 million in new revenue for two main initiatives:
