Planning in San Tan is about to get a little more organized.
On Oct. 31, the Pinal County Board of Supervisors approved a general plan for a 70-square-mile area of San Tan Valley. The comprehensive plan is the county’s first attempt at regulating land-use designations and the preferred locations of subdivisions and retail areas.
Because a large number of planned area developments, which include primarily single-family detached homes, already exist or are slated for the area, creating the appropriate zoning was a little more challenging, said Matthew Klyszeiko, the consultant who created the plan for the county.
Pinal County originally began trying to develop and organize the plan for San Tan Valley more than two years ago. Creating employment zones that will offer high wage jobs will be key to the community’s long-term sustainability, Supervisor Steve Miller, R-Casa Grande, said.
