Snow hits the Valley, Oscars generate more reaction than the films which they celebrate, Jodi Arias testifies, and baseball is back in full swing.

ALL HAIL THE STORM!

Patrick O’Grady of the Phoenix Business Journal set the tone for the day, tweeting: “All work in Phoenix has stopped as the denizens mistake hail for snow. It’s only a matter of time before the panic sets in.”

CenPho.com tweeted this with a great pic: “Well that was an interesting storm! A little hail isn’t stopping this Central Phoenix resident!”

Republic photog Michael Schennum tweeted, “Snow cactus #phoenix #colddayinhell” and captured this image, the perfect show of contrast:

And Schennum also tweeted this: “Snow in Phoenix? Believe it. @desertmountain

PGA Tour golfer Luke Donald couldn’t believe his eyes, tweeting a photo: “Even the cacti are cold, it’s a winter wonderland here in Tucson!”

The University of Arizona got into the snow amazement, tweeting: “It’s #snowing in #Tucson!”

On a day of a lot of snapshots, Jeff Beamish of KVOA in Tucson retweeted: “THE snapshot of the day, and tournament. RT @RyanRecker: A snapshot of today at #MatchPlay

Tri-athlete Kenny Withrow of Boulder tweeted: “Felt more and more like home at end of my run here in Tucson, AZ.@junkbrands #tucson

Meantime, there was a mysterious hole in Page that emerged and caught the attention of media.

Meteorologist and news nerd Kim Quintero tweeted: “ADOT says sink hole near Page IS NOT weather related and may be a geological event.”

And Chris Hrapsky of 12 News: “ADOT workers says there is a fault line near the Echo Cliffs.”

Oscar night always yields some intriguing tweets. But sometimes it can be a bit much, as the Republic’s visual guy Michael Meister rightly pointed out in this tweet: “Get over it…Why do we critique the #Oscars more than the movies that were actually up for the awards?”

Now, turning from the big screen to politics. Progress on the immigration reform front, which is being led by Senators from Arizona.

Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton used the occasion nicely to plug his upcoming speech in this tweet: “Oscar night? What? We’ve got the state of the city speech coming up on Thurs! Sunday night practice makes perfect.”

U.S. Sen. Jeff Flake tweeted: President struck the right tone on immigration during SOTU. But leaking details of a partisan WH draft is not helpful.

And his colleague, U.S. Sen. John McCain, tweeted: “Strong letter from @AZChamber and 100+ #Arizona business leaders supporting our #immigration reform efforts: http://azchamber.com/uploads/Business_Community_Letter_Immigration_Reform_FINAL.pdf

The managing director for Lincoln Strategy Group, Nathan Sproul, tweeted: ‘I have to say, the more I listen to Sen Rand Paul, the more I find myself agreeing with him. Looks like a strong #2016 field for GOP.”

Gov. Jan Brewer tweeted this and a photo: “Always great to spend time with @gretawire discussing the issues that affect Americans.”
