FLORENCE — Mayor Tara Walter said the town needs to hire an experienced economic development coordinator with a track record of achievement, and work “strategically and aggressively” for economic success in 2019.
The Town Council discussed a variety of topics in a nearly four-hour “special meeting retreat” on the afternoon of Jan. 3 at Town Hall.
Vacant buildings were a major discussion item. Florence Management Analyst Jennifer Evans told the council there are 20 vacant buildings on Main Street, from the north end to the south end. Perhaps 10 of them are “leaseable and usable,” she said, contingent on the Community Development Department’s inspections.
