Following allegations of religious discrimination, Phoenix has reversed its decision to stop a school for children with autism from opening in north Phoenix.

Last year, the Scottsdale Worship Center sued the city after a volunteer board that makes zoning decisions rejected a permit the church needed to operate a school across the street from its church at Cactus Road and 65th Place.

Attorneys for the church argued the Phoenix Board of Adjustment erroneously denied the church’s permit and displayed religious hostility while doing so.

Neighbors don’t want the school.

The church currently has about half a dozen students with autism in a school it is running out of the church. It’s intent was to expand to about a dozen students and move to a house across the street that Scottsdale Worship Center owns.
