[REGIONAL NEWS] Hold on to your wallets: Sales tax increasing in 51 California cities starting Monday


Most of the sales tax hikes in California will be between 0.5 percent and 1 percent.

If you’ve been considering buying furniture, a giant TV or any other big-ticket item, it might be a good idea to pull the trigger this weekend.

Sacramento, West Sacramento and Roseville area are among 51 California cities in which sales tax will increase starting Monday.

Taxes in Roseville and Sacramento each are going up a half-percent (Roseville to 7.75 percent, Sacramento to 8.75 percent). West Sacramento is jumping from 8 percent to 8.25 percent.

Most of the sales tax hikes heading to California at the start of April will be between 0.5 percent (including Coalinga, Fowler and Kerman in Fresno County) and 1 percent (including Lodi in San Joaquin County and Los Banos in Merced County).

Los Gatos is getting the smallest change, from 9 percent to 9.125 percent, while Carpinteria is going all the way from 7.75 percent to 9 percent.

Sales tax is also jumping in unincorporated parts of Santa Cruz County (8.5 to 9 percent) and Yuba County (7.25 to 8.25 percent).

California’s statewide sales tax is 7.25 percent.
