Don’t wait for action at Arizona Capitol — impasse on state taxes won’t be resolved by April 15

Just before April 15, Gov. Doug Ducey and members of the Legislature have a message for Arizonans who have delayed filing taxes while leaders at the Capitol try to resolve a conflict over tax rates: Don’t wait.

“The forms that are at the Department of Revenue are the forms that you should fill out, and you should file your taxes early and at the latest April 15,” Ducey said Wednesday. 

“The quicker you file the quicker you will have your return.”

Many tax advisers have told clients to wait to file their state returns as Republicans in the Legislature and the Republican governor argued over whether the state should both “conform” to the federal tax code and lower tax rates. 

That debate was prompted by the passage of President Donald Trump’s federal tax overhaul.
