The Phoenix City Council will vote Wednesday on entering into a partnership with Arizona State University to find new ways, including testing out prototypes, to mitigate extreme heat and their impact on lower-income residents and neighborhoods.
The move comes out of the city of Phoenix being awarded a $100,000 grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies to study and find solutions to extreme summer heat’s impact on poorer residents. Phoenix is also looking at the impact and potential solutions to urban heat island effects.
ASU helped Phoenix with that grant application. Now, the city wants to further team with the university on testing out heat mitigation solutions
