Pinal Republic Committee votes unanimously to encourage Gov. Brewer to ask the state Land Department to sell Red Rock land for Union Pacific jobs

Whereas – Economic development in Pinal County faces an ongoing challenge such that a majority of Pinal County residents commute daily to Pima or Maricopa counties for work, and

Whereas – Pinal County median income is the lowest in the State, yet Pinal County has the 2nd highest property tax rate in the State, and

Whereas – The real unemployment rate in Pinal county is 16%, and

Whereas – The Union Pacific Railroad has expressed its desire to build its classification yard at the Red Rock location, creating a minimum of 300 new jobs;

Now Therefore, Be It Hereby Resolved; that the Pinal County Republican Committee (PCRC) strongly urges Governor Brewer to immediately, and without any further delay, direct the Arizona State Land Department to forthwith enter into negotiations for the purpose of transferring the necessary State Trust land to Union Pacific Railroad for the purpose of constructing the Red Rock Classification Yard.
