Former U.S. Sen. Jon Kyl led a survey chronicling conservatives’ grievances about Facebook’s perceived bias against their viewpoints at the request of the social media giant. Now, in response to the survey, Facebook is making changes.
Kyl recently laid out the survey’s findings and the company’s responses in an op-ed published in the Wall Street Journal titled “Why Conservatives Don’t Trust Facebook.” Kyl’s team at law firm Covington & Burling LLP, where he is senior counsel, determined conservatives’ concerns about Facebook center on content distribution and algorithms, content policies and enforcement, advertising policies and enforcement, and workplace viewpoint diversity (or lack thereof) at the company.
Kyl wrote that Facebook placed no restrictions on his team, which began conducting interviews for the survey in May 2018, shortly after a congressional hearing about the company’s sharing of user data.
