Arizona lost construction jobs last month but still ranks high for annual industry growth

Arizona lost 300 construction jobs last month but still ranks as one of the top job-producing states for the sector over the past 12 months.

That is according to the latest construction industry employment data from the Associated General Contractors.

Arizona gained 15,400 construction jobs between August 2018 and August 2019, according to AGC.  That amounts to a 9.7 percent gain and ranks third among U.S. states for construction jobs growth.

Only North Dakota (12.1 percent) and Nevada (11.7 percent) had higher growth rates.

Arizona posted 174,900 construction jobs in August up from 159,500 a year ago.

Among other states, New Mexico saw 9.2 percent construction job growth the last 12 months; California (4 percent), Texas (5.9 percent), Colorado (0.2 percent) and Utah (4.1 percent), according to AGC.

Florida added the most construction jobs between July and August gaining 4,100 jobs. New York added 3,000 jobs in one month and Nevada gained 2,400jobs.
