Supervisor Denny Barney moved Hickman’s name for consideration, seconded by Supervisor Steve Chucri. Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox, the board’s sole Democrat, also supported the motion.

Wilcox said she was confident that she and Hickman could be a “one-two” punch for the West Valley. Hickman’s district encompasses a handful of West Valley communities.

“We have to combat the East-side boys,” Wilcox said.

In his acceptance speech, Hickman thanked Wilson for his service and said voters will find a friend of taxpayers in their new supervisor.

“I will not ever forget … that I’m an appointed official and those voters elected Max or someone like Max,” Hickman said. He added he will seek Wilson’s counsel and ask for advice.
