It’s been two months since Phoenix entrepreneur Sam Fox sold his restaurant company to the Cheesecake Factory. But on a sunny Friday afternoon at the Henry, you’d never know anything has changed.
In the airy, noisy dining room, customers still chat over salads and plates of roasted chicken. Suit-wearing business folk still wait in line for an afternoon pick-me-up at the coffee bar. And upstairs, founder Sam Fox still sits behind a big desk in a corner office with panoramic views of Camelback Mountain.
From his perch inside the Big Kitchen — that’s what the company call its headquarters on the second floor of the Henry restaurant — Fox runs the day-to-day operations of the restaurant empire, even if he no longer owns it. And despite rampant rumors that outside investment might persuade the Tucson native to ditch Phoenix for somewhere else, Fox says he’s committed to the community that helped make his company what it is today.
