The Arizona Republic
There are many reasons to oppose Glendale’s ridiculous pitch to bring the Arizona Cardinals training camp to the city.
However, the fact that the proposal for a Glendale training camp sidelines youth sports teams for a few weeks is not one of them.
Glendale’s proposal means the Cardinals would use the Youth Sports Complex to train in July and August. The fields would be outfitted with an air-conditioned bubble tent to accommodate the team.
In exchange for missing out on a few weeks, youth sports teams would get the opportunity to use a $4 million professional-quality training facility for the rest of the year.
That facility would provide air-conditioning during the other sweltering months in our extended summer.
It’s a small price to pay.
