The Gilbert Town Council is slated to vote on referring a new General Plan to voters for approval in August.
Referral of the new General Plan is on the Gilbert Council’s February 4 agenda.
The new plan reduces the number of non-residential land-use classifications from 15 down to 10. The plan potentially headed to voters also identifies a growth area in the northwest part of the city to encourage redevelopment projects. That area is located south of the U.S. 60 from Baseline Road down to Elliot Road.
The number of residential classifications in the new Gilbert remains at a current level of 8.
That residential decision was made after a 60-day community comment period, according to town officials.
Gilbert voters approved the existing General Plan in 2011. The town has significant population, development and commercial growth since then.
