APS, SRP hike pay for top brass

Arizona Public Service Co. and Salt River Project both disclosed pay increases for top executives, with the biggest bump coming for the man in charge of the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station, who cashed in on a $4 million bonus last year.

Randall Edington, APS executive vice president and chief nuclear officer, earned a total of $9.13 million in 2012 with his $900,000 base salary and other income, including the increase in his pension value, according to an APS regulatory filing.

The total compensation was 64 percent higher in 2012 compared with the $5.56 million he earned in 2011.

Edington joined APS in early 2007 to help improve operations at the nation’s largest nuclear power plant, the triple-reactor Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station 50 miles west of Phoenix.

In 2008, APS gave Edington a deal worth $1 million a year in deferred compensation, in addition to his base salary.
