[OPINION] 2 things lawmakers can do now to help affordable housing

Opinion: Inaction on affordable housing could be catastrophic in human and economic terms. It’s why business leaders support tax credits and a bigger housing fund to help Arizona’s poor.

In metropolitan Phoenix and other communities throughout our state, the shortage of quality affordable housing is felt daily. Too many families struggle to make rent, put food on the table and pay bills.

Homeless shelters and food banks report being hard-pressed to keep up with a massive demand for their services. Media reports tell stories that aren’t merely heartbreaking — they call for leaders to take action to fix the affordable housing crisis.

The consequences of inaction would be catastrophic in economic terms and, more importantly, in human terms.
