Tempe requiring restaurants, bars and other businesses to document social distancing efforts

By Mike Sunnucks | Rose Law Group Reporter

The city of Tempe is requiring businesses — including bars and restaurants —  to document and show how they are ensuring social distancing as the economy reopens.

Tempe Mayor Mark Mitchell issued an emergency proclamation yesterday after social media and media posts showing a crowded restaurant and bar on Mill Avenue.

Reopening businesses have been filing security plans with the Tempe Police. The Tempe order requires them to document their physical distancing protocols.

Under Mitchell’s order, restaurants and other businesses will have to produce their social distancing programs and rules if police are called to their premise.

The Downtown Tempe Authority is also working with Mill Avenue and downtown Tempe restaurants and other businesses on their reopening procedures.

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey allowed restaurants to start opening on Monday. Other businesses will be opening this week with an easing of the state’s COVID-19 closure orders.
