Potential protests are being organized on social media for Friday and Sunday in downtown Scottsdale.
This comes after vandalism and some looting at Scottsdale Fashion Square, the Scottsdale Waterfront development and some other parts of downtown last weekend. YouTube and social media influencer Jake Paul is facing trespassing and unlawful assembly charges for being at those events which damaged stores and some restaurants.
The Scottsdale Police issued an advisory Thursday about the potential protests and unrest.
“In preparation for protests that may occur over the weekend, numerous traffic restrictions will be in place through the weekend. We have heard of possible protests scheduled for Friday evening at Fashion Square and Sunday evening in Old Town Scottsdale. We have no other information at this time and will continue to provide updates as we receive them,” the Scottsdale Police said in a statement.
Windows are being boarded up and security fences are also being erected at art galleries, shops, restaurants, and Fashion Square in anticipation of potential problems.
Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey issued a statewide curfew after the looting and damage at Fashion Square last weekend. The Apple store, Crate & Barrel, Nordstrom, Urban Outfitters and Neiman Marcus were all among the stores that were damaged, vandalized or looted.
