Arizona health officials are working their way through hundreds of applications from shuttered businesses aiming to reopen in areas that haven’t met COVID-19 benchmarks.
Indoor gyms, bars/nightclubs, indoor theaters, water parks and tubing operations were forced to close June 29, when coronavirus was spiking across Arizona, under an executive order issued by Gov. Doug Ducey.
They can reopen while following industry-specific requirements in counties that meet benchmarks for three metrics measuring the spread of COVID-19 set by the Arizona Department of Health Services.
But when the benchmarks haven’t been met, a business impacted by the order can apply to reopen by creating an individualized plan that includes measures that are stricter than the requirements for when county benchmarks are met.
