Candidates for the Arizona Corporation Commission exposed a wide rift between Republicans and Democrats over clean-energy support on Wednesday, duringwhat may be the only debate for the statewide office before the November election.

Democrats have “wrong-headed” ideas about promoting clean energy in Arizona, said one Republican running for the Corporation Commission, who warned of California-like prices and blackouts.
Democrats countered that Republicans have done nothing to expose millions in dark-money political spending by the state’s biggest electric company that helped elect its preferred regulators in 2014.
