APS’ powerline plan has Cave Creek riled

Some residents don’t want route, substation in their neighborhood

Arizona Public Service Co. hopes to improve utility reliability with the construction of a 69kV power line in the Northeast Valley, a move expected to have significant impact in Cave Creek.

Already, town officials have received feedback from residents concerned about how new utility infrastructure may affect the community.

APS officials are taking public feedback on choosing from among five routes to connect the Gavilan Peak Substation, 38819 N. 12th St., in Phoenix, to the Cave Creek Substation, near the town’s commercial core.

The proposed route could run through areas of Phoenix, Cave Creek, Carefree, Scottsdale and unincorporated parts of Maricopa County. APS hopes to have the line in use in 2014.
