The Salt River Project (SRP) is helping make a dream come true for the Gila River Indian Community.
The Community has struggled for 80 years to restore their water rights and in 2004 Congress passed the Arizona Water Settlements Act that entitles the Community up to 311,800 acre-feet of Central Arizona Project (CAP) water per year. This makes them the largest single customer of CAP water in Arizona.
CAP water is the key to restoring a self-sufficient agricultural economy in the community, but the irrigation infrastructure will not be completed until 2029.
