RLG Client, Central Arizona College board chooses Helmich as college president – great pick, President Helmich will be a fabulous leader of a progressive school!

After three hours in a closed, executive session Monday, the Central Arizona College Governing Board selected Interim President Doris Helmich to be CAC’s next college president.

The decision was unanimous, and the board immediately returned to executive session to negotiate a contract.

Helmich became interim president in November 2011, when she replaced longtime CAC administrator Dennis Jenkins, who retired from his post as college president during an investigation into alleged policy violations.

Helmich has a doctorate in educational leadership and higher education administration from Johnson & Wales University. She was a health educator at Bryant College in Smithfield, R.I., from 1992 to 1999, when she became assistant to Bryant’s vice president for student affairs. She was hired as CAC’s director of student success in 2001 and became chief student affairs officer for CAC’s three campuses and seven centers in 2004. She served as associate dean, dean, associate vice president and vice president between 2004 and November 2011.
