Officials hope to have 111K votes counted this week

Maricopa County Recorder Helen Purcell says all valid votes will be counted by Wednesday, and Pima County hopes to finish totals this week.

Arizona election workers still have 111,758 of the 600,000-plus ballots uncounted on Election Day to count, including 85,618 in Maricopa County, reports The Arizona Republic

Friday was the deadline for counties to complete their work, but Maricopa and Pima counties sought and received more time from the Arizona Secretary of State’s Office.

Arizona election officials have come under fire from the American Civil Liberties Union, Latino groups, Democrats and others for long lines and confusion at the polls and what critics believe is an inordinate number of provisional ballots.

Several races still remained too close to call as the counting continued.
