Arizona nearly beats California for solar installed in Q3; stays second in U.S.

The U.S. has already installed more solar energy than all of 2012 – setting a new annual record. And the year is not over yet. Today, 6.4 gigawatts (GW) of solar electric capacity operates in the U.S. That’s enough to power more than one million average American households.

It was a great quarter for residential solar, with more than 118 MW of clean solar energy added to U.S. homes, an all-time high.

The top states for total cumulative installed solar electric capacity are: California, New Jersey, Arizona, Nevada, and Colorado. See the rest of the rankings in our report.

So what does the future hold for the U.S. solar market? Overall, SEIA expects that 2012 annual growth will top 70% over 2011, bringing the industry to an annual record 3.2 GW.
