Resident Steve Snider, one of 12 candidates running for a council seat in the March 17 election, has decided to step down from the race for personal reasons.

He ran promoting a platform of fiscal responsibility and criticized the town for its $62 million debt.

In an e-mail sent to The Republic Tuesday night, Snider said, “First and foremost I want to thank all those who have supported me in this process, you have blessed and humbled me more than you will ever know. With that said, due to personal issues I can no longer continue to seek a seat on the town council.”

He said he would not comment any further.

Snider was not present for the Cave Creek candidate forum sponsored by local newspaper Sonoran News, Jan. 30.

In the e-mail, he goes on to say, “But this is not about me, and it never has been. This is about a process that guarantees us equal representation. This is about us and our representatives being equal participants in this thing we call government.”

The Cave Creek Town Council is made up of a mayor and six council members. Their terms last two years, with all seats being up for election on the odd year.

Other candidates running for council this year include Adam Trenk, Rose Law Group lawyer and former town councilman.
