Metro Phoenix’s supply problem of homes for sale continued to worsen as the busy home-buying season kicked off in March — and home builders continued reaping the benefits.

The relentless supply shortage has pushed frustrated buyers to the new home market, which saw a 37 percent year-over-year jump in transactions in March to 949 Valleywide, according to the latest monthly housing report released May 3 by Arizona State University’s W.P. Carey School of Business.
