Queen Creek terminates talks with multiplex theater owner Maya Cinemas

A potential rivalry between two multiplex movie theater chains for a location in Queen Creek apparently has dissolved after town officials decided to discontinue exclusive negotiations with one of the companies.

Queen Creek spokeswoman Marnie Schubert said town officials have discontinue talks with Los Angeles-based Maya Cinemas because of a “lack of significant progress and a recently revised proposal from Maya.”

Both Harkins Theaters and Maya have been eyeing the feasibility of a multiplex in Queen Creek, which currently has no movie theater.
