The proposed tallest building in Scottsdale outside of its downtown has been approved by the Scottsdale Planning Commission and could be considered by the city council later this month.

The building, which will be used for offices or a hotel, is part of a multibuilding mixed-use project along Scottsdale Road, south of Loop 101. It will be south of the auto dealership currently under construction.

The development will include four retail pads along Scottsdale Road, with a multifamily residential building on the northeast side and the office structure on the southeast side. The office building, which could also house a hotel, will be the tall one.

The project will go up on land sold to Diversified Partners in May 2012. The company paid $10.2 million for 30 acres.

The new project will occupy 12 acres. The car dealer takes up nine more, and the rest will be used for roads and utilities.
