This is big news for Phoenix as prime property for multi-family, low income, or student housing may come available.  The Downtown Phx YMCA has just put out a RFP seeking response from the professional development community seeking to partner or develop on their excess land.

One of the country’s last YMCAs to still rent affordable rooms — often to people who have few other options — is looking to get out of the hotel business.

The Lincoln Family Downtown YMCA on Friday began gauging developers’ interest in building private housing for students or families at its downtown Phoenix location.

The non-profit’s leadership says it wants to put the YMCA’s prime location at 350 N. First Ave. to work while leaving behind the challenge of providing housing to a sometimes demanding population.
