Main Sundome buildings begin coming down

The pair of excavators lined up and took aim at the building.

Once the scene of top-name entertainment and variety shows, the Sundome stood in silence for years as its owner, Arizona State University, tried to find a way to operate it profitably, and when that did not work, to sell it for some other purpose.

Scottsdale developer Brown Grace 6 last year came up with a plan that found acceptance with the university’s board of trustees, and announced plans for Sundome Crossing, a shopping and retail center anchored by a Fry’s supermarket.

On Monday, July 1, permits secured, demolition crews went to work.
