When Maricopa Mayor Christian Price first announced how much new proposed legislation on transaction privilege taxes (TPT) could hurt the city, the situation looked dire.
However, Price worked hard with state representatives and spent a good deal of time at the Capitol fighting to defend Maricopa alongside mayors from other cities in an effort to keep from losing millions of potential dollars in tax revenue.
While cities such as Maricopa will still lose some of the revenue it previously received, Price said at a past council meeting that it was a partial victory for the city. He said the Maricopa will be much better off than it would have been; the city could have lost up to 20 percent of its general fund revenue in the next two years.
Construction sales tax, which is one of several kinds of TPT collections, is that area affected by the legislation.
