Officials: Land swap could cut property tax revenue

Mohave County could lose about $10,000 a year in property taxes if a long proposed private to public land swap goes forward, a county development dervices leader said Friday.

Monday, the board of supervisors will decide whether to continue their long-held opposition to the so-called Ray Land Exchange, which consists of converting nearly 7,000 acres of private land north of Kingman to public land operated by the federal Bureau of Land Management (BLM).

Supervisor Buster Johnson’s proposed resolution calls for the county to become a coordinating agency for the Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement on the land swap. The coordinating agency designation would allow the county to have its concerns more directly addressed, said Nick Hont, Mohave County Development Services director.
