[EDITORIAL] Arizona Republic: APS’s solar tax proposal not “credible”

Arizona’s rooftop solar industry celebrated this week.

But it shouldn’t get too far ahead of itself.

The celebration came after the Arizona Corporation Commission staff recommended against changing the rules for homeowners with solar panels.

The state’s largest regulated utility, Arizona Public Service, says those homeowners aren’t covering their share of the costs of getting electricity when the sun isn’t shining. It wanted to charge them more. Ridiculously more.

The ACC staff suggested the commission sidestep the request and wait until APS next seeks a rate increase, likely in 2015.

But there’s a downside to that.
